BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – In boys basketball from around the Big 8, Bronson used a 29-point performance from Aden Hathaway to pick up a 74-35 win against visiting Reading. The Vikings rolled out to a 23-1 first quarter lead and never looked back. Hathaway added 6 rebounds, 7 assists, and 5 steals to his stat line, Saylor Wotta had 14 points and 7 rebounds, and Boston Bucklin added 12 points and 5 boards. Bronson is now 11-9 overall and 8-5 in the Big 8, tied for third in the league with Reading and Homer. The Vikings visit Springport on Tuesday.
Homer spoiled Union City’s Hall of Fame Night with a 68-62 win at the McNett Fieldhouse. Jeremy Zehr led the Chargers with 16 points, while Landon Galvin had 14, and Aidan Decker and Rick Austin each added 10. Union City fell to 7-13 overall, 2-11 in the Big 8, and will host second-place Concord Tuesday.
Quincy’s Hall of Fame Game against Concord was postponed until next Thursday due to a lack of power at the high school. The Orioles will host Homer on Tuesday. And Big 8-leading Jonesville defeated Springport 56-35.
Union City’s girls basketball team lost at Manchester 48-30 to conclude the regular season at 2-19. Gracie Phelps and Carley Gordon had 6 points apiece for the Chargers, who will open tournament play Monday at the Division 3 Constantine District against the host school.
Tekonsha split their home finale against Waldron. The Indian boys won 54-31 to improve to 12-8 overall, 8-7 in the SCAA. In a game rescheduled and relocated from Thursday, Tekonsha’s girls fell to 2-19 with a 54-36 loss to the Spartans.
