BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – A defective hot water heater is being listed as the probable cause of a fire on Wednesday afternoon near Bronson which caused about $50,000 worth of damage to a home at 1130 Douglas Road.
Bronson Fire Chief Brent Wilber says homeowner Allen Jeffries came home just before 1:00pm and found the residence was filled with smoke. Bronson firefighters managed to get the fire under control at 1:20 p.m. The fire was located in the rear of the finished basement.
Wilber says heavy smoke filled the entire house and the overhaul was extensive. He added the loss is covered by insurance.
The Burr Oak Fire Department assisted with two tankers and five firefighters. Lifecare Ambulance and Consumers Energy also assisted.
Crews were on the scene for four hours. No injuries were reported.
