JACKSON, MI (WTVB) – About 38,000 Consumers Energy customers were still without power as of 5:00 a.m. Monday morning after a major ice storm went through South Central Michigan last Wednesday afternoon and evening.
The devastating ice storm which coated south central Michigan with at least a half inch of ice on Wednesday afternoon and evening resulted in more than 8,000 downed wires and more than 237,000 Consumer’s Energy outages.
The Jackson-based utility said in a news release on Sunday night that restoration work will be complete Monday.
They provided free meals on Sunday in Kalamazoo, Jackson and Hillsdale Counties as a way of thanking customers for their patience during the multi day power outage.
Over 600 Consumers Energy crews, contractors and line workers from outside Michigan were on the job Sunday to restore power to homes and businesses affected by the
powerful ice storm.
As of 5:00 a.m. on Monday, there were still 1,583 outages reported in Branch County while over 7,100 customers were still out in Hillsdale County. The Calhoun County outages were down to 644 on Monday morning.
