BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Just as everything is getting back to normal following last week’s devastating ice storm, a late season winter storm is expected to cause more problems on Friday.
Branch County is included in a Winter Storm Watch which is in effect from Friday morning through Friday evening.
National Weather Service forecasters say heavy wet snow is possible with total snow accumulations of four to seven inches.
If that wasn’t bad enough, winds could gust as high as 45 mph in portions of northern Indiana, southwest Michigan and northwest Ohio.
Travel could be very difficult. The gusty winds and heavy snow could bring down tree branches.
Rain is expected to change over to heavy snow near the Michigan border with rapid snow accumulations likely.
Residents are asked to monitor the latest forecasts for updates on this situation.
The approaching winter storm is bad news for those residents who are still dealing with power issues after the February 22 ice storm.
As of mid morning on Thursday, over 1,100 Consumers Energy customers were without power in Hillsdale County while 42 were still out in Branch County.
Over 8,000 Consumer’s Energy customers were off line system wide.
