BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – If you thought it was time to put the snow shovel away after highs on Wednesday topped out at nearly 60 degrees, think again.
Branch County is included in a Winter Storm Warning that will be in effect from noon until midnight on Friday.
The warning covers southern Lower Michigan as well as northern Indiana and northwest Ohio.
National Weather Service forecasters say heavy snow is expected. Isolated thunderstorms are also possible from this storm.
They are expecting the total snow accumulations to be four to eight inches with isolated higher amounts around 10 inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
The combination of gusty winds and heavy, wet snow could bring down tree branches and lead to power outages which is bad news for residents who had to deal with days of power outages last week following an ice storm.
You can expect travel to become very difficult especially during the evening commute as snowfall rates in excess of one inch per hour are expected.
If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
