COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Zach Coffing made one of two foul shots with 2.4 seconds remaining and the Coldwater Cardinals survived what can be described kindly as a questionable time out awarded by the officials to Portage Central as the Cardinals defeated the Mustangs 52-51 in the regular season finale at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium.
Sean Watson and Mike Murphy had the call of the frantic finish on AM 1590 and FM 95.5 WTVB.
The Cardinals finished the regular season at 14-8 as they rallied from a 36-28 halftime deficit.
Donte Work had a double-double to lead Coldwater as he scored 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.
Ayden Dirschell had 12 points and three assists while Coffing finished with 10 points.

Portage Central won both of the underclassmen games.
The Mustangs won the JV game 54-45. Julian Thompson led Coldwater with 16 points while Austin Downs had 12 points, four steals and three assists. Jackson Reilly grabbed 13 rebounds.
Portage Central defeated Coldwater in the freshman game 47-26. Owen Tappenden led Coldwater with nine points.
