COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Attorney Megan Angell gave an update on the ongoing situation involving the former Gillespie Funeral Home building during Tuesday nights Coldwater Historic District Commission meeting.
The future of the building is in limbo after the H.D.C. voted 3-3 in April on a motion to demolish the empty building so that the current property holder, Southern Michigan Bank and Trust, could put in a park on the property.
She said all parties involved had a telephone conference with the administrative law judge hearing the case on Tuesday concerning the banks appeal to the State Historic Commission of the April decision.
Other items were discussed but Angell says no hearing date has been scheduled.
It was initially thought the hearing would take place in September. If the state affirms the H.D.C. decision, then the bank could appeal through the courts. But if the decision is overturned, then the bank will be able to proceed with its plans.
