COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved a resolution Monday night which schedules a March 27 public hearing on the submission of a state grant application that would be used to help fund renovations at Rotary Park but some concerns have been raised about parts of the proposed project.
Michael Reen from the North Chain Lake Association Board said one of their concerns was proposed rental slips from a keyholing aspect.
He added some members of the board had issues about the potential impact on cemetery operations as well as traffic.
Reen said the board has been working for years to get a permanent boat wash station at one of the public access locations on the lake to help prevent the spread of invasive species and they would like to see something like that in the final plans.
City Manager Keith Baker says the City would be seeking grant funding in the amount of $300,000 which is the maximum under the program.
The resolution states the City will provide any additional funding needed for completion of the project. The staff has proposed allocating over $343,000 in cannabis tax revenue as the local match for the project.
The Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Grant application would go to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Baker says the grant application deadline is April 1, 2023.
According to a letter from Baker to the Council for Monday’s meeting, the proposed renovation project would include the construction of a new public boat launch, relocated ADA accessible kayak and canoe launch as well as improved and increased vehicle parking for boaters and park visitors.
