COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – While it first appeared that one resident and three staff members at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility in Coldwater tested positive for coronovirus last Friday, that might not actually be the case.
According to Maple Lawn Administrator Jane Sabaitis, they worked over the weekend to verify those test results. Sabaitis says “it appears that the rapid testing system that we received from the government is giving us some inaccurate results.” The resident that tested positive, received two negative tests over the weekend, two from ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital and one from a third-party lab. One of the three staff members has received a negative result from the third-party lab as well.
Sabaitis says they are continuing to monitor this situation, but at this point the news is better. She says they will no longer be using the rapid testing machine for any testing in the building and have reported the inaccuracies to the company.
Sabaitis says she has heard from other facilities and the health department that there have been similar issues with this machine. Maple Lawn will be testing all residents and staff again this week using their third-party lab company, and will test any residents presenting any possible symptoms with tests that will be sent to ProMedica.
Until this situation can completely sort itself out, Maple Lawn will not be having outdoor visits. They are also scaling back their group activities as a precaution, but will still have their dress-up day Friday. This week’s dress up day is College Day.
Sabaitis says anyone with questions can call Maple Lawn at (517)279-9587.
