KALAMAZOO, MI (WTVB) – For the second time this year there has been a senseless tragedy causing multiple deaths in Kalamazoo County.
Five bicyclists were killed and four seriously injured when a man in a blue pick-up plowed into the group at the intersection of the Kalamazoo River Trail and North Westnedge near Markin Glen Park in Cooper Township.
Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Getting says the community barely had time to recover from February’s mass shooting.
He refused to offer details but did reveal the 50-year-old suspect was already being sought after complaints to the county, the city and the township about his driving.
Five were dead at the scene. Four have been hospitalized, two at Bronson and two at Borgess.
Police were having trouble identifying some of the victims apparently because they weren’t carrying I.D..
Getting refused to say if the driver was intoxicated.
