QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Community Schools Board of Education formally approved the hiring of Chris Gerlach on Monday night as the district’s new Athletic Director and Dean of Students.
Prior to coming to Quincy, Gerlach worked in the East Grand Rapids Public School District where he served as their Athletics Event Manager, District Floating Substitute Teacher and Field Director for Youth Football.
He has also coached at both the Varsity and youth levels. Prior to working at East Grand Rapids, Gerlach served four years in the United States Marine Corps and graduated from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelors in Sport Management degree.
He is also enrolled and is on track to graduate in December with a Masters in Athletic Administration from Ohio University.
Gerlach said in his letter to the Quincy School Board that, “First and Foremost, educational athletics are an extension of the classroom. This means that student-athletes are students first, no exception. Educational athletics helps to mold and develop young people through lessons of teamwork, leadership, perseverance, hard work, and time management. Our emphasis will prioritize the performance in the classroom while addressing the whole child. In partnership with our teachers, we will prepare our students with the skills necessary to be successful young adults.”
Gerlach is scheduled to begin his new duties in the Quincy school district sometime next month. He will take over for Gabe Frisbie who left in January after taking a job with Bay City Western High School to be their Assistant Principal and Athletic Director.
