QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – There will be no changes in the foreseeable future to the ordinance passed by the Quincy Village Council in October of 2020 which regulated the keeping of animals in the Village of Quincy.
The Council on Tuesday night voted 5 to 2 not to forward any changes to the ordinance to the Quincy Planning Commission following a discussion that centered around the keeping of chickens.
Trustee Christy Berry presented information during a February workshop pertaining to chickens and she wanted the council to decide if they should be allowed in the village.
Village Manager Brittany Butler presented her research to the Council Tuesday night in regards to animal ordinances in neighboring communities including Jonesville, Coldwater, Hillsdale and Union City.
The Quincy ordinance allows up to four pets to be kept in any dwelling unit. Domesticated animals under the ordinance include dogs, cats, birds, aquatic animals, rabbits, small rodents and similar animals which do not present an unusual risk to persons or property.
Cattle, horses, pigs, sheep, goats and chickens are considered livestock under the ordinance and are prohibited on all lots within the village. Exotic or Wild Animals especially those that pose a clear and present danger to humans would also not be allowed.
