HILLSDALE, MI (WTVB) – The Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Office says residents should be aware of scam phone calls after a Hillsdale County resident recently received a call from a 313 area code advising her that a vehicle was rented in her name and was found abandoned in Texas.
She was also told that inside the car, law enforcement found 32 pounds of cocaine and other various drugs.
The scammers go as far as giving the caller a false ID or complaint number along with an arrest warrant number.
Sheriff Scott Hodshire reminds residents that law enforcement will never call them in regards to having a warrant for your arrest. They also will never request that you send them money.
Hodshire adds the scammers are also asking for banking information that you should never give to anyone.
If you think you have been scammed, call your nearest law enforcement agency.
