COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Board of Public Utilities Board of Directors approved a request on Tuesday to increase monthly rates for Lifeline Basic and Expanded Basic cable service.
CBPU Telecom Manager Jodi Shook said rising programming costs due to bigger bulk contracts with cable networks is why Lifeline Basic is going up from $17.70 to $25.50 while Expanded Basic rates would increase by $6 a month to $67.80.
She said this will not affect some other rates. There will be no increases in rates for digital basic, modems or premium channels.
But bulk rates for such locations as assisted living, motels, health care facilities and apartment complexes would also go up due to the increases in Lifetime Basic and Expanded Basic rates.
Shook pointed out Charter Communication rates are higher and the CBPU still offers ala cart services.
She also said every single major carrier has had a cable rate increase this year due to higher programming fees and this is nothing new for providers.
The rate increases will be forwarded to the Coldwater City Council for their consideration.
