HILLSDALE, MI (WTVB) – The Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Office says its K9 Drako will be getting a donation of body armor in eight to 10 weeks thanks to a charitable donation from the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Incorporated.
The organization, which was established in 2009, is a 501(c)(3) charity which provides bullet and stab protective vests to law enforcement dogs and related agencies throughout the United States.
The Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Office has had a K-9 since receiving a grant of over $14,000 in March of 2021 through the Hillsdale County Community Foundation and the Kellogg Youth Advisory Fund.
Before that, the Sheriff’s Office had to reach out to the Michigan State Police in Lansing to have a dog brought down.
The dog and training was purchased two years ago from Scott LaRoe who is the owner and operator of Magnum K-9 in Quincy.
K9 Drako has been utilized for drug detection as well as for tracking criminals and lost individuals.
