Barbara Ann Olmsted, 86, of Union City, passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at Masonville Place in Coldwater.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 24, 2023 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 8220 M-60 in Union City. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Union City.
Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m., with a Rosary Service beginning at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 23, 2023 at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation, 1276 Tate Trail in Union City.
Barb was born on November 11, 1936 to Roman and Agnes (Otto) Sobeski in Bronson. She graduated from Bronson High School with the Class of 1954. After graduation she worked at Darling Manufacturing in Bronson.
September 28, 1958 she married Deo Olmsted at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bronson. After marriage, she attended beauty school and supported Deo’s House of Styles as a beautician. Later she worked at the Kellogg Cereal Company where she retired in the mid 90s.
She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church where she was very active and played the piano and organ for 40 plus years. Barb enjoyed gardening, traveling, playing piano in front of the Pope with her church choir, taking several cruises, cross-stitching, baking (especially Paczkis), cooking, going for walks, taking in nature by sitting on her deck, but most of all spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She belonged to the Green Thumb Garden Club, Union Lake Association and Kellogg’s 25-Year Club. She was a huge and devoted Notre Dame fan.
Surviving Barb are her children, Robert (Connie) Olmsted of Union City, Mark Olmsted of Royal Oak, Ron (Kristin) Olmsted of Jackson, Annette (Ken) Johns of Bronson and Michele (Jeff) Lake of Bronson; grandchildren, Josh Vargovich, Noah Olmsted, Leah Olmsted, Olivia Olmsted and Perry Lake; great grandchildren, Brynn and Savannah Vargovich; siblings, Don (Carol) Sobeski of Surprise, AZ and Linda (Phil) Parshall of Coldwater; many nieces, nephews and cousins; her church family; neighbors and friends.
Proceeding her in death were her parents Roman and Agnus Sobeski, husband, Deo Olmsted and brother, Jim Sobeski.
