STURGIS, MI (WTVB) – A 20-year-old Sturgis woman was flown to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo with life threatening injuries on Wednesday night after she was struck by a car while walking her dog.
Police in Sturgis say the accident happened at about 7:45 p.m. at the intersection of South Centreville and West Fawn River Roads.
Police found an off duty emergency room nurse performing CPR on the woman who was struck when they arrived on the scene.
They add the woman’s dog was killed in the crash.
The driver was identified as a 25 year old woman from Howe, Indiana.
The investigation by Sturgis Police is continuing. Police say any criminal charges will be forwarded to the St. Joseph County Prosecutors office for review.
Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the accident according to Police. Michigan State Police assisted Sturgis Police.
