LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Data released on Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology Management and Budget showed Branch County’s unemployment rate dropped in March to four-point-six percent.
It was at four-point-nine percent in February and January. Branch County had the 18th lowest jobless rate in Michigan and was among 25 of 83 counties that had a unemployment rate of five percent or less.
The report stated not seasonally adjusted jobless rates declined in 12 Michigan regions and remained unchanged in five other labor market areas during March.
Michigan Center for Data and Analytics labor market information director Wayne Rourke says, “Michigan regional labor markets recorded positive trends in March. Modest payroll job gains were observed in most metro areas over the month.”
St. Joseph County’s unemployment rate dropped to four-point-eight percent in March while it was at four-point-nine percent in Hillsdale County and five-point-one percent in Calhoun County.

Unemployment rates around Michigan in March ranged from two-point-two percent in Livingston and Oakland Counties to 21-point-six percent in Mackinac County.
