COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In high school baseball Tuesday, Coldwater split a Interstate 8 doubleheader with Jackson Lumen Christi at Lowe Field as they lost the opener 9-8 but won the second game 7-4. Lumen Christi snapped a 8-8 tie in the first game with a run in the top of the seventh after they rallied from a 7-4 deficit. Brandon Lewis had four RBI’s for Coldwater.
Coldwater took early control of the second game as they scored four runs in the first inning. Brendan Spangler had three hits and three RBI’s. Nick Shaw pitched into the fifth to get the win while Brayton Rzepka got the save.
Bronson 7, Mendon 0 (1st game)Bronson 7, Mendon 4 (2nd game)
Bronson improved to 16-1 overall and 6-0 in the BCS East with a doubleheader sweep of Mendon 7-0 and 7-4. Ethan Cossairt and Coty Bennett were the winning pitchers. Daniel McMichael earned the save in the nightcap.
Brenden Bell drove in two runs while Tyler Roussey had three hits in the first game. Bronson broke a scoreless tie by scoring four runs in the last of the fifth and added three more runs in the sixth. Bronson built a 7-0 lead in the second game and then held on as Mendon rallied. Bell doubled while Thadd Herman had four RBI’s in the second contest.
Union City 1, Quincy 0 (1st game)Union City 8, Quincy 1 (2nd game)
Union City committed only one error in the doubleheader as they swept Quincy 1-0 and 8-1. Seth Bruce and Colton Johns were the winning pitchers. Bruce struck out nine while Johns fanned eight.
The Chargers broke open the second game with a seven run second inning. Colin Kreger tripled and drove in two runs for the Chargers while Blade Gordon also had two RBI’s. The Chargers are now 12-7 overall and 6-2 in the Big Eight. The Orioles drop to 5-10 overall and 4-4 in the conference.

Coldwater swept an Interstate 8 doubleheader from Jackson Lumen Christi by scores of 10-0 and 7-2. Darlene Horn was the winning pitcher in the opener as she tossed a two hits. Avery Milnes had three hits to pace a 12 hit attack for the Cardinals.
Tyler Scheid was the winning pitcher in the second game. Kendall Galloway had three hits including a double. Katie Stanton also doubled. Coldwater is now 17-4 overall and 8-2 in the league.
Union City 7, Quincy 2 (1st game)Quincy 9, Union City 4 (2nd game)
Union City and Quincy split a Big 8 doubleheader. The Chargers won the opener 7-2 while the Orioles won the nightcap 9-4. Quincy pitcher Hannah Econonmou struck out 13 in the opener. Katie Newberry drove in three runs in the nightcap while Mickala Signor had three hits including a double.Quincy is now 14-5 overall.
Mendon 3, Bronson 2 (1st game)Bronson 9, Mendon 3 (2nd game)
Bronson split a BCS East doubleheader with Mendon as they dropped the opener 3-2 but came back to win the nightcap 9-3. Payton Robinson homered in the first game while Araceli Hernandez drove in four runs in the nightcap.
Kaitlyn Czajkowski collected three hits in the second game. Allie Sikorski was the winning pitcher in the nightcap. The Vikings are now 7-4 overall and 5-1 in the league.

Parma Western 84, Coldwater 79
Coldwater dropped another heartbreaker as they were edged by Parma Western 84-79. The meet came down to the last race once again as the Panthers finished first in the 1600 relay. Coldwater is now 3-2 in the Interstate 8.
—BOYS GOLF—
Coldwater traveled to the Grande Golf Course in Jackson to participate in the Onsted Invitational on Tuesday and came away with a 3rd place finish in the event which saw 18 teams participating. Winning with an overall score of 300 was St. John’s, followed by Saline at 311 and Coldwater right behind with a 313.
Cam Ruge finished in 2nd place overall with a round of 68 which was 4 under par. Nathan Waterbury added a 76 to Coldwater’s scoring, Nolan Duda had an 80, Nick Galliers carded an 89 and Keagan Dwyer rounded out the scoring with a 92. Ruge and Waterbury made the top 10 with their scores. Coldwater next travels to Arbor Hills in Jackson for an I – 8 Jamboree on Thursday.

Bronson’s lone point came from the #3 doubles team of Cierra Hardy and Morgan Hoard as they won their match 6-3, 7-6.
