BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson City Council voted on Monday night to apply for a state grant of up to $234,000 that would help the city identify any possible PFAS contamination.
City Manager Brandon Mersman said the EGLE grant would cover wastewater collection system sampling for PFAS.
It would also cover seasonal impacts on sanitary sewer PFAS concentrations and identify sources including the wastewater treatment plant. Flow at source sites would also be monitored under terms of the grant.
The City of Bronson would not be required to provide a match.
Mike Schwartz from the engineering firm of Prien and Newhoff said Bronson would be one of three communities getting the grant.
Most of the grant will cover sampling.
Mersman said in his report the work would attempt to identify potential contamination within the treatment plant and collection system, and legacy/orphan sources of PFAS use in the city.
