BURLINGTON, MI (WTVB) – A woman and a child escaped serious injury on Monday morning when their minivan burst into flames after it struck the back of a Calhoun County Road Commission mobile warning sign that is used for road construction as it was parked on the side of the road.
The crash, which is being investigated by the Michigan State Police, happened on M-60 between 9 and 10 1/2 Mile Road west of Burlington at about 8:00 a.m..
The minivan wound up on its side after the impact. Members of the Road Commission crew managed to get the occupants out of the vehicle.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department, Union City Police along with firefighters from Burlington, Tekonsha and Union City and the Marshall Fire Department Ambulance service were all dispatched to the scene of the crash.
Nobody in the road construction work crew was injured. Traffic on M-60 had to be shut down while the crash scene was cleaned up.
