COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) -Hundreds of Consumers Energy customers in Branch County lost power late Monday night following some strong storms which knocked down trees and power lines.
The power was still out at mid morning in the Lake of the Woods area and on the south side of Coldwater Lake.
Some customers between Coldwater and Bronson lost power but it has since been restored.
Consumers Energy spokesperson Debra Dodd says a lightning strike affected 335 customers while trees getting knocked down onto a power line affected another 460 customers.
She says crews are working on restoring power and everyone should be back on line by midday.
Branch County Emergency Management and Central Dispatch reported trees and power lines down in Sherwood at about 11:20 p.m. Monday night. The Branch County Road Commission had crews out early Tuesday morning removing a number of trees. No road closings have been reported.
A National Weather Service observer west of Coldwater measured a wind gust of 47 miles an hour just after midnight. In Hillsdale County, one observer measured 1.2 inches of rain while two healthy large tree limbs were snapped off thanks to an estimated wind gust of 55 miles an hour. Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued late Monday night for St. Joseph and Calhoun Counties.
