COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The 2016-17 fiscal year budget for the City of Coldwater was introduced during Monday nights City Council meeting.
For now, it shows a deficit of nearly $570,000 in the General Fund due to over $2 million in planned capital expenditures which includes $1.2 million expected to finance the purchase of assorted pieces of fire apparatus.
By contrast, the Major Streets, Local Streets, and Parking Authority Funds would show a combined budget surplus of just under $404,000.
The public hearing on the proposed spending plan is scheduled for Council’s June 13 meeting, with final adoption scheduled for the June 27, 2016 meeting. The City Charter requires the introduction of the budget for the next fiscal year by no later than Council’s second meeting in April.
The Council also approved a contract with Miller Davis Company for construction on the Coldwater Tennis Complex at Heritage Park at a cost not to exceed $897,700.
Parrish Excavating was awarded the demolition contract for the Heritage Park Pool and the old tennis courts. Their base bid of just under $33,700 was significantly lower than the other bid received because they were the subcontractor for Miller Davis on the excavation of the tennis courts and were already going to be onsite.
Parrish also presented an alternate bid of around $3,300 to remove all the pool concrete, as opposed to the top three feet. Total cost of the pool demolition: around $37,000. A splash park will be built at the old pool site. The Council also okayed rate increases for CBPU water and wastewater customers that will take effect on June 1, 2016.
