COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County unemployment rate went up slightly in March according to figures from the Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives.
March unemployment was at 4.6 percent, up slightly from the February figure of 4.5 percent.
The labor force also went up by 100 from February while 75 more people in the labor force were able to find jobs when compared to the previous month.
Hillsdale County’s unemployment rate was also at 4.6 percent while St. Joseph County was at 3.8 percent.
Analyst Dr Leonidas Murembya said unemployment rates were once again stable throughout Southwest Michigan. He added hiring activities were recorded in leisure and hospitality, professional and business services as well as construction. However, such sectors as manufacturing, trade, transportation, utilities and government cut jobs.
