COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – About 20 people showed up at the Legg Middle School on Wednesday night as Coldwater Community School officials start to gather information for a possible bond vote in May 2017.
Voters turned thumbs down by an almost 3-1 margin in May of last year to a pair of bond issues.
The first proposal would have raised $46.5 million to build a new facility to replace Lakeland Elementary. It would have also paid for building upgrades and technology and safety upgrades. The second bond request to generate $10 million, mostly for a 900 seat auditorium at Coldwater High School also went down in flames.
Wednesday’s meeting was intended to find out from the public what they would consider.
Superintendent Teri Boguth said they are dealing with aging facilities, buses and infrastructure.
After audience members broke up into small groups, they felt last years proposals had a lot of fluff and that there was to much on the ballot.
While they felt Lakeland needs to be replaced, they also felt the high school auditorium was not needed since Coldwater already has the Tibbits Opera House. Another meeting will probably be held in a about a month.
