COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The latest unemployment report released on Thursday by the State of Michigan was positive not only for Branch County but for all of Michigan.
Data by the Michigan Department of Technology Management and Budget showed Branch County’s unemployment rate went sharply down in April to three-point-two percent after being at four-point-six percent in March and at four-point-nine percent in February and January.
Branch County had the 18th lowest jobless rate in Michigan and was among 55 of 83 counties that had a unemployment rate of five percent or less.
The state reported that not seasonally adjusted unemployment rates receded in all 17 Michigan labor market areas over the month.
Michigan Center for Data and Analytics Labor Market Information Director Wayne Rourke said, “Labor force increases were seen across most Michigan labor market areas during April. Regional payroll employment levels also advanced over the month.”
St. Joseph County’s unemployment rate dropped to three-point-four percent in April while it was at three-point-three percent in Hillsdale County and three-point-seven percent in Calhoun County.
Michigan’s April unemployment rate dropped to three-point-eight percent.
Unemployment rates around Michigan in April ranged from one-point-five percent in Livingston County to 13-point-four percent in Mackinac County.
