QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Village Council will be asked on Tuesday night to give the police department permission to proceed with the addition of a K-9 officer.
Police Chief Scott Olney says in a letter to the Council that they have a new full time officer who has shown a desire and capability to take on being a K-9 handler.
The K-9 would be funded through donations. A non-profit organization is providing the dog. A local company will donate the cost of the training.
The K-9 will be trained to sniff for drugs and assist in searches for missing persons but it will not bite.
It’s estimated that about $1,500 in donations will be needed each year. Olney hopes the dog will be a community asset and that it will be ready for duty by the end of July.
In other business, a public hearing is scheduled on a 12 year tax abatement request from Speedrack Products Group as part of a planned expansion of the business.
