COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Planning Commission approved a request from Tommy’s House Ministries on Monday night that will lead to a transitional house for women after they are released from incarceration.
On a 6-0 vote, the Commission said yes to a Special Land Use Permit for the development of the six bed home at 50 North Clay Street.
The home would be in a district zoned C-2. An earlier request for a women’s transitional home was turned down last December because of concerns about its location at 41 West Pierce Street.
City staff recommended that the latest request be approved.
Kathy Olmstead will serve as the Acting Director of the home once it’s renovated. Olmstead said they would provide counseling for the women who stay there.
In other business, the Planning Commission heard a report from Consultant Randy Mielnik on the work being done to put together a Master Plan for Coldwater. More comments were gathered Monday afternoon as displays featuring several key community development issues were presented during an informal gathering on the second floor of the Henry L. Brown Municipal Building.
Mielnik said they will soon start working on a draft after they go over the comments provided by local residents.
