MENDON, MI (WTVB) – A manufacturing facility in Mendon was part of an announcement on Thursday by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation which stated 350 new jobs will be created in the state thanks a private investment of $25 million.
International Automotive Components North America Incorporated, a Luxembourg-based global supplier of automotive interior components, will be creating 273 jobs in Alma and Mendon.
The company’s North America Headquarters are in Southfield and the Mendon facility is one of four in Michigan that employ over 800 employees.
According to a press release from the Michigan E.D.C., the IAC Group will move certain manufacturing programs in production from Indiana to its existing Alma and Mendon facilities. Michigan was chosen for the project over a competing site in Ohio.
The relocation project is being supported by an $800,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant.
Southwest Michigan First CEO Jonas Peterson points out that at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the facility in Mendon was being looked at as a potential closure. Peterson added that now they are looking at an investment of over $17 million which will create more than 180 new jobs.
