COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater’s Red team finished tied for third with Mason, while Coldwater’s White team was 12th and Quincy 23rd in the 23-team Coldwater Cardinal Golf Invitational at the Coldwater Golf Course. Both Coldwater Red and Mason finished with team scores of 329, just 2 back of runner-up DeWitt and 3 behind the winning team from Lumen Christi. Coldwater’s Cameron Ruge tied with Portage Central’s Jared Lyons for low round of the day with both shooting 75s; Ruge lost to Lyons for medalist honors in a 3-hole playoff. Also for Coldwater Red: Nate Waterbury shot an 84, while Keegan Dwyer and Nolan Duda each had 85. For Coldwater White, Collin Warner had an 87, Alec Keplinger and Jacob Fair each had 90, and Kyle Herman had a 95 for a team score of 362. For Quincy, Austin Tell had shot a 103, Kabe Christian 111, Cody Smith 114, and Noah Shilling 116 for a team score of 444.
BASEBALL
Quincy 14, Springport 2 (5 innings); Quincy 12, Springport 10
Quincy picked up their first 2 wins of the season in a doubleheader sweep at Springport, winning the opener 14-2 in 5 innings and taking the nightcap 12-10. Hunter Haylett thrw a complete-game 1-hitter in the opener with 5 strikeouts, Zach Brockway had a 3 RBI single, and Josh Clark and Adam Santi each had 2 RBI hits. Clark was the winning pitcher in the nightcap with 7 strikeouts in 6 innings of work, while Braden Allman had a single, a double and 4 RBIs. The Orioles improve to 2-3 overall, 2-0 in the Big 8.
SOFTBALL
Quincy 16, Springport 0; Quincy 15, Springport 4
Quincy swept a softball twinbill at Springport, winning 16-0 and 15-4. Kalyn Oliver was the winning pitcher in both games, allowing 3 hits with 4 strikeouts in the opener while striking out 8 in the nightcap. The Orioles improve to 5-1 overall, 2-0 in the Big 8.
GIRLS SOCCER
Coldwater 4, Jonesville 0
Coldwater posted a 4-0 shutout win at Jonesville to improve to 2-0-2 overall. Malorie Rzepka had a goal and an assist, Megan Hoath and Madison Marsh also scored, Jasmine Wellet had an assist, and Nadia Kiersey had 3 saves as the Cardinals outshot the Comets 19-3.
TRACK & FIELD
Union City’s boys placed 8th, and the girls 7th, in the 8-team Marshall Sportsfest. Jalen Boes won the long jump, was 2nd in the 200m dash, 4th in the 100m dash, and anchored the 2nd place 4x400m relay team, Lillian Bambacht won the long jump, and Rachel Wing placed 2nd in the discus and 4th in the shot put.
