MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater scored five runs in the top of the 11th to defeat Marshall 7-3 in the Cardinals Interstate 8 opener. The Cardinals took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth before Marshall tied the game with two in the last of the sixth. The score remained tied until Coldwater’s 11th inning outburst. Austin Krzeminski drove in four runs and had two hits. Brandon Lewis also had two RBI’s Brayton Rzepka got the win in relief.
The second game was suspended by darkness after three innings with the score tied 1-1.
The Cardinals are now 4-0. They will host the six team Pat Lowe Memorial Tournament tomorrow at both Lowe Field and Borden Field. The Cardinals will face Mattawan at 9:00 a.m. at Lowe Field. with the pregame broadcast on AM1590 and FM 95.5 WTVB at 8:45 a.m. Coldwater will also face Portland St. Patrick at 2:00 p.m.
Quincy will face Gull Lake at 9:00 a.m. and Dundee at 11:3 0 a.m. at Borden Field. The championship game is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.

Coldwater 14, Marshall 0 (1st game)Coldwater 16, Marshall 0 (2nd game)Winning pitchers Darlene Horn and Stacy Guzy both tossed one hitters. Horn helped her own cause at the plate in the first game with two doubles and three RBI’s. Payton Watson had a double, a triple and three RBI’s. Kendall Galloway drove in two runs.
With the sweep, Coldwater is now 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the Interstate 8. The Cardinals will host an invitational tournament tomorrow. They will face Portland St. Patrick at 12 noon. The championship game is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
Coldwater’s J.V.’s won both games of their doubleheader with Marshall by scores of 15-0 & 12-9. Tyler Scheid and Cheyenne Akers were the winning pitchers. Carly Duke drove in five runs in the opener. Akers and Scheid both had two RBI’s in the nightcap. Coldwater is now 6-0 and will play in the Gull Lake Tournament on Saturday.

Hannah Economou was the winning pitcher in both ends of the twinbill. In the first game, she tossed a one hitter and struck out 13. She also had two double and two RBI’s in the first game and a home run in the nightcap. Economou allowed two hits and struck out nine in the second game. Jenna Kritz drove in three runs in the first game. Mikayla Signor and Kaitlyn Oliver both drove in two runs in the second game. Quincy is now 3-1.

Quincy 4, Onsted 0Ally Parrish scored twice and had an assist for Quincy. Payton Hines and Julia Hildebrand also scored for the Orioles. Quincy outshot Onsted 20 – 3 on the night. Quincy is now 2-1 on the year and plays at Michigan Center on Saturday at 3pm.

Schoolcraft 200, Bronson 232Brandon Hyska led the Vikings with a 53 while Logan Kenny had a 58.
In middle school track Thursday, Coldwater hosted Pennfield and Jackson Lumen Christi in a tri-meet. Both Coldwater teams lost to Pennfield but both boys and girls defeated Lumen Christi.
Dylan Targgart broke the school shot put record by 2 feet, throwing 50 feet 10 inches. Coldwater athletes taking first place in their events included: Matt Gipple 200 m dash, Kyle Foulk in both the 1 and 2 mile, The 400 Relay team of Targgart, Angel Soreno, Spencer Rodesiler, and Matt Gipple, Angel Soreno in the High Jump, Marshall Hoard in the Pole Vault. Madison Klotz in the 100 and 200 m dash, Elka Machan in the 2 mile, Marissa Cox in the 1 mile, and Mia Rzepka in the Pole Vault.
