COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A consultant who has been hired by Branch County to look into the future operations and staffing of the Branch 911 Dispatch Center gave a preliminary report to Bronson County Commissioners during their work session on Thursday.
Kevin Kearns from IXP Corporation of Seattle, Washington spent two weeks in Branch County and at times his assessments were blunt.
He said there was a lot of tension in the current model and service plan and he found out in his interviews that the tensions have been going on for a considerable amount of time.
He recommended against making 911 Dispatch a “stand alone” organization.
Kearns found that the shorthanded 911 staff is doing a good job maintaining operations despite the recruiting challenges they have faced.
He indicated that when it came to long range plans for technology frame work, it needs to be done in a collaborative way.
IXP has been hired to review the operation and to make a recommendation to the Branch County Board of Commissioners for potential changes in operations, use of technology, employee training and employee scheduling.
