BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The Board of Education of Bronson Community Schools announced Wednesday night that as part of a separation agreement, they have accepted Superintendent Steve Wilson’s resignation.
His departure from Bronson has more questions than answers. A tersely written two paragraph statement from the board gave no reason as to why Wilson was leaving. It only stated that under terms of the separation agreement, neither party has further comment.
School Board President Jan Byler was listed as a contact person on the news release that was issued but she declined to comment when contacted on Thursday morning.
The action came during a special meeting and after a closed session was conducted “to review attorney client privileged communication”. A closed session was conducted during the May 15 meeting for a Superintendent Evaluation. No action was taken at that time.
The board Wednesday also voted to name Curriculum Coordinator and Director of Grants Kate Wall as Interim Superintendent.
Wilson had been the Bronson Superintendent since January 2, 2020.
He was previously with Constantine Schools for 13 years where he served as a middle school teacher, a high school teacher, and as a principal at Riverside Elementary School before he became the district’s Superintendent in 2016.
Besides the Superintendent’s position, the district needs to find new principals at Bronson High School and at Ryan Elementary School. John Herbert announced on May 19 that he would be leaving the district effective at the end of June to pursue an opportunity in the ministry field. His resignation was accepted by the board during their June 5 meeting.
The principal job at Ryan Elementary School is still open after Kristen Frisbie stepped down on April 14 in order to pursue other opportunities.
In another note, the Bronson School Board meeting and budget hearing originally scheduled for next Monday has been moved to next Wednesday, June 28. It will be held in the Bronson Junior/Senior High School library at 6:30 p.m..
