COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council chambers will be undergoing significant technology upgrades over the next couple of weeks.
Coldwater City Manager Keith Baker told the City Council on Monday night that in anticipation of eventually returning to in person board and commission meetings, the new technology will allow public meetings to be broadcast live and allow remote participation by board members and members of the public.
There will also be a new Bluetooth enabled audio enhancement system to assist persons with hearing disabilities.
Baker says the system includes new cameras, monitors and equipment to record and stream meetings.
The City Council and other Coldwater governmental boards have been conducting remote meetings during the COVID-19 pandemic. Remote meetings are still being allowed by the State of Michigan through the end of the year.
In other business on Monday night, the Council approved the purchase of a vacant lot at 106 North Hanchett by Shawn and Tiffany Welch for $1,000. The site is the former location of a residential structure the city tore down leaving the garage standing. The Welchs own the adjacent property to the south.
The Council also approved a request from Public Safety Director Joe Scheid to purchase a new police car from Cole Ford Lincoln at a price of $32,415. It’s one of two new police cars that are in the 2020-2021 budget.
