COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Although the margin wasn’t as close in the Democratic Presidential race in Branch County as it was across the state, county voters did throw their support behind Senator Bernie Sanders in Tuesday’s primary. Sanders garnered 1,246 votes compared to Hillary Clinton’s 1,010. Sanders was declared the winner in Michigah by a slim margin.
On the Republican side, businessman Donald Trump easily rode to victory in Branch County, collecting 2,455 votes. Senator Ted Cruz was second with 1,535, and Ohio Governor John Kasich was third with 1,244. Florida Senator Marco Rubio was a distant 4th with just 482 in Branch County.
Overall, 27.48% of Branch County’s 30,983 registered voters participated in the election.
