UNDATED (WTVB) – The second season for high school boys basketball teams tipped off last night with the first round of the MHSAA Districts. No teams from Branch County were in action last night, but they were paying attention to find out who they would play tomorrow night.
At the Class B District at Paw Paw, Luke Tolliver dropped in 50 points to lead the host team past Vicksburg 89-64. The Redskins advance to face Coldwater tomorrow night at 7:30 in the second game of a District Semifinal doubleheader. Our pregame coverage from Paw Paw will begin tomorrow night at 7:15. In the first game of the evening, Edwardsburg will face Three Rivers.
At the Class C District hosted by Union City, Homer eliminated Reading 67-37 and will take on Bronson tomorrow night at 7:30. Tomorrow’s first game at 5:30 will see the host Chargers face Quincy.
At the Class D District at North Adams-Jerome, Pansophia Academy will begin play tomorrow night at 7:30 against Hillsdale Academy, who beat Litchfield last night 80-57.
Tekonsha opened up play in the Class D Bellevue District with a 56-32 win against Calhoun Christian. Anthony Layne had 14 points, while Everett Lewis-Lanphar had 13 points and 7 rebounds. The Indians will take a 4-17 record to its District Semifinal matchup with St. Philip tomorrow at 5:30.
The MHSAA Girls Basketball Tournament resumes tonight with no teams from Branch County making it to the Regional Semifinals. In the Class B Harper Creek Regional, Edwardsburg, the team that eliminated Coldwater last Friday, will take on Otsego in the opener, while Interestate 8 champ Marshall will play against Stevensville Lakeshore in the nightcap. At the Class C Constantine Regional, Big 8 champion Homer, who ended Union City’s season last Friday, will face Niles Brandywine after Schoolcraft takes on Gobles.
