COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Despite rain in five of the first 12 days of July, most of Branch County remains classified as in a “severe drought.”
This week’s report from the U.S. Drought Monitor did not include the rainfall from Wednesday. That registered .22 inches at the Michigan State University monitoring station at the Bloom Dairy Farm west of Coldwater.
With Wednesday’s rain, the total for the month of July is now 1.37 inches. Heavy rainfall is predicted for Friday night and all day Saturday.
Rain fell only five days for the entire month of June.
Thursday’s report showed the southern two thirds of Branch County as “severe drought,” with the northern third listed as “moderate drought.”
