COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Even though there are only 4 Republican and 2 Democrat candidates for President still in the race, Branch County and other voters around the state will see a whole lot more names on the ballot in Tuesday’s primary.
Because most of the Republican candidates dropped out of the race after the filing deadline and the printing of the ballots, voters will see 13 names. In addition to Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and John Kasich who are still officially in the race, Mike Huckabee, Lindsey Graham, George Pataki, Rand Paul, Rick Santorum, Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, Chris Christie, and Carly Fiorina all have their names still on the Michigan ballot.
For the Democrats, Martin O’Malley and Roque “Rocky” De La Fuente appear on the ballot in addition to Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. Voters can also select Uncommitted for either party.
State officials believe voter turnout will be higher for Tuesday’s primary. Over 500,000 absentee ballots have been issued, up 30% from the 2012 Presidential Primary.
