COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – With a March 15 deadline looming, fundraisers are hopeful they will be able to reach their goal and win a $50,000 matching grant to help fund renovations for the Heritage Park tennis court in Coldwater. The challenge grant is part of a “crowdfunding” campaign through the Michgan Economic Development Corporation and Michigan State Housing Development Authority.
While fundraising has been going on since last year for the purchase of new lighting, fencing, and resurfacing the community tennis courts at Heritage Park, this latest one month challenge began February 15. Since that time, over $41,000 has been raised toward the $50,000 “crowdfunding” goal.
Lisa Miller with the tennis court fundraising committee says the reception to the challenge has been very positive in the community.
In addition to the challenge grant money, organizers would like to raise an additional $50,000 to provide full funding for the project, which is estimated to cost around $900,000. Bids on the project will go out this spring, with construction expected to begin at the conclusion of the Coldwater High School girls tennis season in June.
