COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – It was relatively mild weather that greeted walkers Saturday morning for the 31st Annual Walk for Warmth, raising money for emergency heating assistance. The walks, including ones held in Coldwater and Union City Saturday, are sponsored locally by Community Action of South Central Michigan.
While no totals are in yet for this year’s walks, the goal in Branch County was $10,000. Last year 39 households, totally 74 family members, were assisted with their utility bills from money raised at the walks. Community Action paid an average household bill of $299.96. Of the familes Community Action assisted in the Branch County area, 37% of the households had children, 34% of the households had seniors, and the average annual household income was $3,166.09.
