ORLAND, IN (WTVB) – An Orland, Indiana man was lodged in the Steuben County Jail on Sunday night following an investigation into an alleged sexual assault.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department says 46-year-old Brandon Kevin Hicks was booked on charges of Rape, Strangulation, Domestic Battery and Animal Cruelty. He was being held without bond pending an initial court appearance.
According to a Sheriff’s Department news release, deputies were summoned to Cameron Memorial Community Hospital on a report of a sexual assault.
An initial investigation determined that the alleged incident took place early Sunday morning at a home in the 5900 block of North State Road 327.
After a sexual assault exam and treatment of minor injuries, the alleged female victim providing details to Sheriff’s detectives about the attack.
It was alleged that Hicks was intoxicated and allegedly battered, strangled, and sexually assaulted the woman.
The woman’s dog tried to protect her but was allegedly struck by Hicks with a closed fist.
The incident remains under investigation. The Orland Town Marshal’s Office assisted the Sheriff’s Department during the investigation.
