COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Southern Michigan Bank & Trust has announced that the public is invited to an Open House so that they can showcase the renovation of the former Gillespie Funeral Home at 27 Marshall Street into Southern Flats.
Branch County Economic Growth Alliance Executive Director Audrey Tappenden told the Downtown Development Authority Board of Directors on Wednesday morning it will take place August 9 starting at 4:00 p.m..
A public tour will follow opening remarks. Light refreshments will be served and staff will be available to answer any questions.
This renovation transformed the 1920s historic building into seven new apartment units while preserving one of the last remaining buildings in Michigan designed by Robert C. Spencer, Junior, a colleague of Frank Lloyd Wright.
Chair and CEO John Castle says, “We are proud to unveil this beautifully renovated building to the public. In addition to contributing toward much-needed affordable housing in the area, we were also able to preserve a historic landmark. There were many Southern employees and partners who were involved along the way, and their combined efforts brought this project to fruition, creating something we can be proud of for years to come.”
