BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A man charged with murder and kidnapping in a fatal shooting near Battle Creek’s Riverside Park in June has been arraigned.
Authorities say 31-year-old Tramayne Brown was arrested in Georgia one week after 28-year-old Arely Hernandez was shot inside a car near the park on June 17. According to police, Hernandez died at the scene.
The incident happened around 1:20 a.m. on June 17 when officers heard gunshots in the area, and discovered a car in the tree line at the edge of Riverside Park, at Golden. When officers approached the car, they found Hernandez inside with apparent gunshot wounds.
The Battle Creek Fire Department and LifeCare Ambulance responded and tried to save Hernandez, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Brown is now lodged at the Calhoun County Jail.
