COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Commissioners indicated during their meeting on Tuesday they will have plenty of questions for Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility officials when they are expected to approach Commissioners for another $250,000 advance during their next work session on August 3.
It would be the second request for a $250,000 advance from the facility which has been struggling with some tight financial situations over the last year.
A cut in residents due to the COVID-19 pandemic was the main reason Maple Lawn has gotten into a financial squeeze.
Commissioner Jon Houtz said on Tuesday Maple Lawn has a three pay roll month coming up. In addition, the State of Michigan now owes money to Maple Lawn.
Commissioner Tom Mathew told Board Chair Tim Stoll he would like to have Maple Lawn Controller Jessica Worden and Facility director Jayne Sabaitis present on August 3 because they may have “substantial questions.”
Sabaitis told commissioners on April 6 that the first $250,000 advance should be the only cash needed from the county. Commissioners voted last August to advance Maple Lawn up to $1 million in $250,000 increments.
A resolution passed by Commissioners in April calls for Maple Lawn to make a full repayment to the county by May 1, 2024.
