LAKE SOMERSET, MI (WTVB) – The National Weather Service says strong winds during the Wednesday afternoon thunderstorms caused some damage along a two-and-a-half mile stretch in the Lake Somerset area.
According to a National Weather Service survey of the damage, it was estimated wind speeds were 70 miles an hour with a peak wind gust of 80 miles an hour.
They say a down burst took place over the eastern portion of Le Ann Lake on Waldron Road where trees were damaged and a sun room on a home had its roof lifted off.
There was more tree damage on the west and north side of Lake Somerset.
The damage from the strong winds diminished significantly before the storm reached the Lenawee County line.
Further examination of the damage will take place to determine if there may have been a weak circulation on or just above the ground.
The National Weather Service also visited LaGrange, Indiana on Thursday and determined that straight line wind gusts of 70 to 75 miles an hour were responsible for numerous downed trees, branches and power lines from the Wednesday night storms.
