COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County had its first below zero temperatures for this winter over the weekend and while the now departed Polar Vortex made for frigid conditions, it wasn’t anywhere near close to record breaking cold for mid-February in Coldwater.
The low temperature both Saturday and Sunday mornings was 3 degrees below zero. Saturday, the thermometer managed to rise to 17 for the high and Sunday was about the same.
El Nino is forecast to re-assert itself before the end of the week as the predicted high for Friday is twenty degrees above normal with 54 degrees not out of the question.
It shows once again how timing can be everything. Just ask the organizers of the 2016 Quincy Chain of Lakes Tip-Up Festival, as they enjoyed the chilly environment on Saturday for their 54th annual event instead of what might have been slushy and even muddy roads that we could experience this weekend.
