QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school girls basketball, last night, Quincy lost 61-29 at Athens. Allison Parshall had 12 points in the defeat for the Orioles, who drop to 1-10 in the conference and 1-16 overall.
Also in the Big 8, Union City lost at home on Senior Night with the Chargers falling 52-25 to Springport. Haley Harty had 8 points with 6 points and 5 blocked shots for Kenya Bartlett. Union City slips to 3-14 overall with a 2-9 league record.
In the BCS East, Bronson lost at home to Mendon 42-28. The defeat dropped the Lady Vikings to 7-9 overall and 3-4 in the conference.
In reserve basketball last night, Coldwater swept their girls games at home over Jackson Northwest, beating the junior varsity Mounties 59-40 while winning the freshman matchup 37-14. Deirdre Reed and Samantha Rodesiler had 20 points apiece in the JV victory while leading the Coldwater freshman was Valy Yaldo with 13 points and 9 rebounds.
In the boys action, the Cardinals Junior Varsity lost at Northwest 60-35 with 12 points for Lucas Santure.
Thursday night in boys Swimming and Diving at the Browne Aquatic Center, Coldwater closed out its debut season of competition with a Senior Night double-dual meet at home with the Cardinals losing twice, 112-58 to Sturgis and 113-70 to Eaton Rapids. Coldwater swimmers posted personal bests in 21 of 28 events on the night and 6 team records were broken.
Austin Butler placed first in the 50 freestyle and 1 meter dive with team record performances. Another first place finisher for the Cardinals was Javier Perez with a team record time in the 100 breaststroke. Coldwater also had a trio of winning relay teams. Setting the team record in their 400 freestyle relay victory were Butler, Jace Arnold, Tyler Massey, and Miguel Bauza. The Cardinals won the 200 medley relay with Perez, Austin Krzeminski, Trently Dubois, and Mason Angel. And placing first in the 200 freestyle relay were Butler, Bauza, Krzeminski, and Perez.
In high school sports tonight, in boys and girls basketball, it’s Coldwater at home against Jackson Northwest with the Interstate Eight Conference doubleheader airing on AM 1590 and FM 95.5 WTVB beginning around 5:30 p.m.following the Evening Journal. The girls tip-off the night starting at 6 p.m. with the boys game to follow around 7:30 p.m.
Also tonight, in boys only contests, Quincy is at Athens, Bronson is at Mendon, and Union City hosts Springport.
In middle school girls basketball Thursday night, it was a split for Bronson at Centreville with the host Bulldogs winning the 8th grade game while the Bronson 7th graders returned home with a victory. The Lady Vikings fell in the 8th grade contest 31-27 with 16 points and 13 rebounds for Keona Salesman while Alanna Mayer had 11 points.
The seventh grade team won 24-12 with 9 points for Meagan Lasky.
