BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – State and local officials announced on Thursday that Madsen Steel Wire Products out of Orland, Indiana will be expanding into Bronson and operate out of the former Putnam Hitch property on Industrial Avenue.
Madsen specializes in the production of custom wire forms, fabricated wire products, and metal parts. Customers include commercial restaurants, grocery retailers, automotive manufacturers, industrial, and lawn and garden industries.
Thursday’s announcement came after the Bronson City Council approved a resolution on June 12 which established a Plant Rehabilitation District. City Manager Brandon Mersman reported during the meeting that Branch Industrial Park LLC had purchased the buildings at 211 and 213 Industrial Avenue.
Audio PlayerMadsen is experiencing increasing demands from its customers and plans to purchase an existing, long-vacant facility in the city of Bronson.
The facility has 100,000 square feet of space and has been empty for 15 years. A press release from state and local economic officials said it will allow Madsen to expand its manufacturing capabilities. In addition, the company is considering the purchase of a seven-acre lot next to the facility to allow for future anticipated expansion.
The project is expected to generate a total capital investment of just under $7 million and create 70 jobs with the support of a $552,000 performance-based grant from the Michigan Business Development Program. Officials say Madsen chose Michigan over a competing site in Indiana due to the ease of collaboration and proximity of the Bronson site to the company headquarters in Orland.
The city of Bronson needs to approve a property tax abatement in support of the project and is selling the adjacent property to the company for $1 per acre.
