COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – It was one year ago Friday when officials from Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility first made the Branch County Board of Commissioners aware of financial issues they were having.
Commissioners voted during their work session on Thursday to bring forward a second request from Maple Lawn for a $250,000 advance from the county.
The first advance was approved in April. Facility Director Jayne Sabaitis said the second advance is needed as August is a three pay roll month and the State of Michigan owes money to Maple Lawn.
Board Chair Tim Stoll expressed his displeasure another request for a $250,000 advance was being made.
Sabaitis said they had 101 residents as of Thursday which is the highest they have been since November of 2020. They hit 100 residents for four days in May.
A cut in residents during the COVID-19 pandemic has been cited as the main reason Maple Lawn has gotten into a financial squeeze.
Formal action is scheduled to take place during the Commissioners meeting on August 15.
A resolution passed by Commissioners in April calls for Maple Lawn to make a full repayment to the county by May 1, 2024.
