COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A portion of I-69 in southern Branch County was shut down off and on for about 3 hours early today following two separate but related injury accidents involving a semi and a car. It happened shortly after one a.m. in the northbound lanes near the 3 mile marker in Kinderhook Township.
Michigan State Police say the car driven by a 22-year old Kalamazoo woman struck a guard rail when she lost control on the icy roadway. She got out of the vehicle which had come to rest on the highway with no working lights. Moments later, the semi approached and swerved while making an effort to avoid the disabled auto, but struck the car and then his cab and trailer rolled over into the median.
An off-duty state trooper came upon the accident scene shortly after it occurred and radioed for help. The truck driver from Warren, Ohio was taken by Lifecare Ambulance to the Community Health Center of Branch County in Coldwater to be checked out and was treated and released.
Troopers say the woman also suffered minor injuries and was examined at the hospital after being driven there by a friend.
